At Petun Flooring, we stand behind the quality of our craftsmanship. We understand that a floor is more than just a surface, it is the foundation of your home. This policy outlines our commitment to excellence and the terms of our professional installation services within the Canadian residential and commercial sectors.
1. Professional Installation Warranty
We provide a one-year (1) limited labour warranty on all flooring installations performed by our certified crews. This warranty covers defects in workmanship, such as:
- Loose or lifting planks/tiles.
- Improper transition installations.
- Baseboard or trim detachment due to installation errors.
The warranty period begins on the day the installation is completed. Should any issues arise due to our workmanship within this period, Petun Flooring will repair the affected area at no additional labour cost to the client.

2. Floating Floor Restrictions & Limitations
Floating floors (such as most laminate and vinyl click products) are designed to expand and contract freely with environmental changes. This warranty does not cover any damage, movement, lifting, or failure of flooring caused by:
- Securing Objects Through the Floor: Any fixing, fastening, or securing of objects through the flooring into the subfloor. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Screwing or nailing fixtures such as door tracks, folding door bases, or partitions.
- Installing cabinetry, kitchen islands, or heavy built-in units directly on top of the floating floor.
- Restricting Natural Movement: Any action that inhibits the floor’s ability to expand and contract. Floating floors require peripheral expansion gaps; any restriction of this movement may result in:
- Lifting or Buckling: Where the floor rises due to lack of space.
- Separation: Where locking mechanisms fail due to being pinned down.
Any such damage resulting from customer-initiated modifications or third-party installations after our team has completed the project is strictly not covered under this warranty.
3. Manufacturer Product Warranty
Please note that the material itself (hardwood, vinyl, laminate, etc.) is covered by a separate warranty provided by the manufacturer.
- These warranties typically cover manufacturing defects, wear layers, and structural integrity.
- Petun Flooring will assist clients in navigating manufacturer claims; however, the final decision on product replacement rests with the manufacturer’s authorised inspectors.
4. Acclimatization and Site Conditions
In the Canadian climate, humidity levels fluctuate significantly. For a successful installation:
- Acclimatization: Hardwood and certain laminate products must sit in the installation environment for 48–72 hours prior to installation to adjust to the local moisture levels.
Environmental Control: The client is responsible for maintaining a consistent indoor temperature (typically between 18°C and 24°C) and humidity level (35%–55%) year-round. Failure to maintain these conditions can lead to cupping, gapping, or cracking, which are not covered under our installation warranty.
5. Exclusions from Warranty
Our installation warranty does not cover damages resulting from:
- Moisture & Flooding: Damage caused by plumbing leaks, appliance failures, or subfloor hydrostatic pressure.
- Abuse & Neglect: Scratches from furniture, pet claws, or high-heeled shoes.
- Subfloor Issues: Unforeseen structural movement of the house or foundation settling.
External Factors: Damage from direct sunlight (fading) or improper cleaning methods (e.g., using steam mops on hardwood).
6. Post-Installation Service Requests
If you notice a potential issue with your installation:
- Contact us immediately at info@petunflooring.ca.
- Provide photos of the concern and your original project number.
- We will schedule a technician visit to inspect the area. If the issue is determined to be an installation defect, it will be corrected under warranty. If the issue is due to external factors or product failure, a service call fee may apply.
7. Client Preparation and Safety
To ensure a professional finish, we ask that our clients provide a safe and clear workspace. This includes ensuring that the “work centre” is free of pets, children, and fragile items. Petun Flooring is fully insured and complies with all Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) regulations in Ontario.
