GC2033 Golden Choice 6.5mm: Durable Vinyl Flooring for Rooms With Heavy Things in Them
Most of the damage a floor suffers in its life happens in about four minutes. A fridge is walked out for cleaning, a loaded bookcase is nudged into position, a sofa is shifted so the rug can be straightened. GC2033 is built with that reality in mind, pairing a 5 mm rigid stone plastic composite core with a 1.5 mm underpad attached for 6.5 mm overall.
Point loads are the real test
Weight spread across a wide base is seldom a problem. Weight concentrated on a small footprint is another matter entirely, and that is what a piano leg, a narrow appliance foot or the corner of a steel shelving unit delivers. The same mass on a two centimetre pad and on a ten centimetre pad are two completely different demands on a floor.
The fix is to enlarge the footprint. Broad felt glides under furniture legs, a proper cup or load spreader under a piano castor, and a plywood or hardboard path under anything rolling or being walked out of position. Lay the board down first, move the appliance across it, then lift the board away. Dragging a fridge directly across a finished surface is the single most reliable way to create a mark you will be looking at for years.
What a denser core does about dents
A dense mineral based core compresses less readily than a softer, lighter one, so a 5 mm core of this type gives a sound basis for a dent resistant floor under normal household loads. The attached underpad is thin and firm rather than soft and spongy, which matters here, because a thick cushioned pad underneath would give heavy point loads somewhere to sink into.
The honest note is this. No resilient floor is dent proof. Hold a narrow metal foot under several hundred pounds in one place for a year and something will register, whatever the material. The useful goal is not immunity but good odds, and good odds come from the core, the pad and your own habits working together.
A short list for a dent resistant floor
- Fit large felt pads to every chair, table and cabinet leg, and inspect them twice a year, since a pad with grit embedded in it becomes sandpaper.
- Replace small hard castors on office and dining chairs with wide, soft, floor friendly wheels.
- Keep a sheet of hardboard by the laundry for the day the washer or dryer needs to come out.
- Lift furniture rather than sliding it, and recruit a second pair of hands.
- Put a tray under plant pots and a mat under a water cooler, because the surface is water resistant and still does not deserve a standing puddle.
Those habits cost almost nothing, and they are most of what protecting your floor amounts to in practice. Combined with the build of this plank, they are why durable vinyl flooring tends to look good a decade later in one house and tired in another.
Fitting, and protecting your floor from day one
Professional installation is recommended, particularly in rooms where appliances, built in cabinetry or very heavy pieces are involved, since those positions affect layout decisions. Floors of this type are generally installed as a floating floor over a prepared subfloor, and the appropriate method should be confirmed with our team. Cartons cover 23.9 square feet and weigh 40 lbs, planks are 7.17 by 48 inches, and a pallet carries 1,195 square feet. Run the specification, the suitability for your particular rooms and your final quantities past the Petun Flooring team first.
Study the photograph, then take a sample home and lay it where the furniture will actually sit, because context changes how a surface reads. GC2033 is ready for pickup in Kitchener and Cambridge, inventory is limited, and your measurements are welcome so we can settle the carton count with you.
