    Description

GC2061 Golden Choice 5mm: Entryway Flooring for the Busiest Strip in the House

Count the number of times a household crosses its own front hall in a single day and the figure is difficult to believe. Every room empties into that corridor, every arrival and departure passes through it, and yet it is usually the last space anyone plans properly. GC2061 is a 3.5 mm rigid stone plastic composite core with a 1.5 mm underpad attached, 5 mm altogether, specified with that corridor in mind.

Why wear appears as a single lane

Look at an older hallway and you will notice the dulling is not spread evenly. There is a lane down the middle, roughly shoulder width, where every foot in the house has landed, while the edges near the walls still look close to new. That pattern is traffic concentration, and it is the reason high traffic flooring decisions should be made for the corridor rather than averaged across the whole project. A material that copes quietly in a bedroom is being asked a different question here.

The useful response is partly the floor and partly the layout. Keep the running line clear of furniture that pinches the walkway, give shoes a designated spot so the lane is not also a staging area, and accept that a runner in the heaviest section is a sensible investment rather than an admission of defeat.

Boots, grit and the salt season

From late November onward the entry stops being a floor and becomes a filter. Sand from a sidewalk, pea gravel from a driveway and road salt from everywhere arrive on footwear and are deposited in the first two metres inside the door. Salt in particular leaves a white bloom when the meltwater dries, and the crystals themselves are abrasive while they are still being walked on.

A practical entry handles that in stages: a scraper mat outside, an absorbent mat inside, a tray or boot rack within arm’s reach, and a quick sweep of the landing zone every couple of days. Wipe salt residue with a barely damp microfibre pad before it dries into a ring. None of this is complicated, and an entryway flooring plan that includes it will outlast one that relies on the plank alone.

What the construction brings to a high traffic flooring job

A dense mineral based core resists the flex that makes a thin floor feel hollow in a long narrow space, and the 1.5 mm underpad bonded to the back takes some of the hard edge off footfall, which matters in a corridor that acts as an echo chamber for the rest of the house. Each carton covers 26 square feet, planks measure 7.17 by 48 inches, and running them along the length of the hall keeps the seam pattern calm and the space reading longer. This is a water resistant surface rather than an invitation to leave puddles standing, so a towel by the door during a thaw is still good practice on any hallway floor.

    Getting it fitted and checked

Professional installation is our clear recommendation, especially where a hall meets stairs, closets and several door openings in quick succession. Products of this type are generally installed as a floating floor over a prepared subfloor, and the method, the specification, the suitability of each room and your final quantities should all be confirmed with the Petun Flooring team before the order is placed. For larger jobs, note that a pallet holds 1,430 square feet at 40 lbs per carton.

Spend a moment with the product photograph, then come and see the real thing, because entry light changes a surface more than any other light in a house. GC2061 can be collected in Kitchener and Cambridge, stock on hand is limited, and if you bring the measurements of your hallway floor we will work out the cartons with you on the spot.
