GC2063 Golden Choice 5mm: Low Maintenance Flooring for a Household With Better Things to Do
Ask someone who has lived with the same floor for five years what they actually did to look after it, and the answer is usually shorter than you expect. A sweep through the week, a damp mop when it needs one, and a little discipline at the front door. GC2063 is built around that level of effort, with a 3.5 mm rigid stone plastic composite core and a 1.5 mm underpad already bonded to the back, giving 5 mm in total.
The routine that keeps the surface looking new
Dry removal comes first and matters most. A soft broom, a dust mop or a vacuum set for hard floors lifts the sand, salt crystals and pet hair that gather along skirting boards and in doorways. Two or three passes a week does more for the appearance of a room than any bottled product on the shelf.
Damp mopping follows. Use a flat mop with a microfibre pad, wrung out until it is barely moist, and a pH neutral cleaner intended for resilient floors. Plain warm water handles most weeks. Skip oil soaps, wax and polish, because they build a film that dulls the surface and attracts the next layer of dust. The whole point of low maintenance flooring is that nothing you add should create a job for later.
Grit does the damage, not the walking
Footsteps on their own do almost nothing to a floor. What dulls a surface is the hard mineral particle trapped under a shoe, quartz from a driveway or a crystal of road salt, which turns every stride into a small abrasive stroke. This is why easy care vinyl depends less on how you clean and more on what you stop at the threshold. A floor kept free of grit stays bright for years in the same traffic that would haze a neglected one within months. That is the most useful single fact about cleaning vinyl plank.
What to keep away from easy care vinyl
- Steam mops. Forced heat and moisture are not something to introduce to a floating resilient floor, however convenient the appliance looks.
- Abrasive pads, scouring powder and melamine erasers, which take the sheen off in a patch you will always notice afterwards.
- Standing water. Mop damp, never wet, and lift spills promptly so nothing sits along the seams.
- Solvents, bleach and acetone, where warm water and a soft cloth would lift the mark.
- Felt free furniture feet, which do quiet harm every time a chair is pulled out.
Mats are the cheapest protection available
A woven mat outside and a second absorbent one inside each exterior door will catch most of what would otherwise travel across the house. Choose colourfast mats without rubber or latex backings, shake them out often, and give boots somewhere to sit through a Waterloo Region winter. Done consistently, cleaning vinyl plank becomes a five minute habit rather than a weekend task, and that is true across the whole floor, not only the parts guests see.
Fitting, and the details to confirm
Professional installation is strongly recommended. Products of this type are generally installed as a floating floor over a properly prepared subfloor, though the method should be confirmed with the Petun Flooring team before you order. Each carton covers 26 square feet and weighs 40 lbs, with planks measuring 7.17 by 48 inches, and a pallet carries 1,430 square feet. Please confirm the specification, the installation approach, room suitability and your quantities with us.
Study the product photograph closely, then let us put a sample in your hands, since a screen cannot show you how a surface settles under your own lighting. GC2063 is available for pickup in Kitchener and Cambridge, inventory is limited, and arriving with your room measurements means we can work through carton counts together before you commit.
