Montana Engineered White Oak 7.5: Choosing the Right Hardwood Flooring Rooms
A good floor in the wrong room is still the wrong floor. Every flooring retailer has taken the call that begins with a wood floor in a basement laundry and ends with a replacement, and almost all of it was avoidable at the point of purchase. Montana is a fine timber floor for most of a house, and this page is about being plain regarding which parts.
Where it belongs without hesitation
Living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms, hallways, studies and stairs are what a wood floor is for. Those spaces are dry, heated, above grade and subject to foot traffic rather than water, and a genuine timber surface gives them warmth underfoot and a quality of sound that no printed surface reproduces. Among hardwood flooring rooms, a main hallway is worth special mention: it is the first thing a visitor sees, and real wood there sets the tone for everything beyond it.
Where it does not belong
Bathrooms are a straightforward no. A room that sees standing water, splashes around a bath and high humidity every single day is not a place for timber, whatever the construction. Laundry rooms are the same, with the added risk of a hose or a machine failing while nobody is home. Most below grade spaces are also unsuitable, because a basement slab passes moisture upward and the humidity in a basement behaves differently from the rest of the house. If you want a hard surface in those rooms, a rigid core product is the sensible conversation, and we stock plenty of it.
Kitchens sit in between, and the honest answer is that it depends on the household. Engineered wood flooring performs well in a kitchen where spills get wiped promptly, a mat sits in front of the sink, and the dishwasher is checked occasionally. In a kitchen where water is routinely left on the floor, do not do it. Only you know which kitchen you have.
Keeping it the way it arrived
- Sweep or vacuum with a hard floor head regularly, since grit is what actually wears a surface.
- Damp mop with a cleaner meant for wood, wringing the mop out so the floor dries almost at once.
- Never use a steam mop, a wet mop or anything abrasive on timber.
- Wipe spills when they happen rather than when you next pass by.
- Keep mats at exterior doors, especially through a salt and grit season.
- Use felt pads under all furniture legs and run a humidifier through the heating months.
Sensible wood floor care is a matter of small habits rather than effort, and a floor looked after this way holds its appearance for a very long time.
Fitting, and the questions to settle first
Montana is a real white oak surface layer bonded over a multi layer core, 7.5 inches wide and 3/4 inch thick in random lengths. A carton covers 19.73 square feet at roughly 50 lbs and a pallet holds 986.5 square feet. Installation method for engineered wood flooring depends on your subfloor, so agree it with our team instead of assuming, and professional installation is strongly recommended for timber. Before you order, talk to the Petun Flooring team about which rooms you intend to cover and about wood floor care, because we will tell you honestly if one of them is a poor candidate, and confirm the specification and quantities at the same time.
Look at the product photograph, then come and stand a board up in front of you, since a sample seen at floor level tells you far more than an image on a phone. Montana can be collected in Kitchener and Cambridge, availability is limited, and bringing your room measurements means we can work out cartons room by room rather than guessing at a total.
